Agumbe - A Paradisaical Beauty

Narasimha Parvatha & Barkhana Falls Trailwalk

Narasimha Parvatha and Barkhana Falls, a part of the Mookambika wildlife range located in the Agumbe region, provide a picturesque view of the vast jungles of  Western Ghats. Narasimha Parvath, the tallest peak of Agumbe is around 7 hours distance from Bangalore. The trail to the peak takes us through the varied landscapes ranging from an easy muddy trail to an inclined moderate grassland stretch towards the peak. Many streams and brooks flow around the trail during the monsoon/post-monsoon season.

The below video clip was taken from our previous visit to the Barkhana falls located around 7km from the starting point of the trail. The Sita river of Agumbe narrows down, plunging into the gorges to become the Barkhana Falls.

Maverick Riders- High on Wheels Monsoon Ride to Malgudi Days 10th-11th August 2019

Ride to Malgudi Days - Agumbe (Registrations ON)

Finally, the wait comes to an end as the bewildering showers have arrived in the western ghats for us to Plan a monsoon date with the rain forests of Agumbe.
Once a bubbly town during the British era, Agumbe is now almost abandoned with a population of less than 500 in numbers. It rests along the western coast of South India and holds the record of receiving the highest rainfall annually (next to Chirapunjee).
The numerous waterfalls in & around Agumbe, the prowling thick foggy breeze, are not just eyeful but a soulful witness to be experienced by every tourist.
This bike expedition aims at exploring the wet and wild regions of Agumbe & camp in the tribal village, a million-star hotel with custom showers.
    Sightings en route

    About the Tour -

    Activities  -

    • Moto Cruising -
Braving the monsoon showers, it's going to be an 800 km ride stretched over a span of two days, away from the chock-a-block traffic infested city life. The western ghats, however, has started receiving a copious amount of rainfall which is turning all the summer dried landscapes to lush green carpets. The deeply curved ghat roads are a total bliss during monsoons for any biker who takes his ride serious in any weather conditions. The lead cruising team consists of experienced riders who have accomplished the Ladakh ride. So!! what are you folks waiting for? Strap your boots & get ready to be a part of the ATG team this monsoon to experience a whole new level of moto cruising.

    • A farmer's life -
Another highlight of this ride is- camping in a village that's a few hundred years old. The tribal villagers there have learned to live a civilized life; however, their lifestyle hasn't changed much. We will have a chance to live their life for a short while by getting on fields with them, plowing their farmlands & many more activities.
    • Trail walk to Waterfalls -
Agumbe is a place for natural formation of waterfalls happening overnight. Thanks to the deep-rooted mother trees in those jungles which naturally channelize the rainwaters into gorgeous seasonal cascades. Apart from witnessing all these seasonal waterfalls en-route, we will be paying a visit to the famous Kudlu theertha falls or Jogigundi falls to refresh in the herbally activated waters.
    • Doddamane visit -
Apart from the monsoon, there is one other thing Agumbe is famous for; The Doddamane (Akka's abode). This is the house featured in the Malgudidays movie and is the village's landmark. For 45 years now, Akka's family has been providing sanctuary to overtired tourists. The two-storied authentic Malnad house is more than 120 years old. Thick wooden columns line the frontcourt, Beyond it lies a central courtyard with potted plants circling the corners. From there stout doors lead to the bedrooms and kitchen. On the whole, it's a must-visit place for all travelers.

    • Stargazing -
As the name goes, agumbe is the right place for a relaxed stargazing session, dining out under the starstruck sky, befriending strangers in the team and becoming buddies thereafter.
    • Barbeque party -
Nothing like a chilling wet climate, an awesome team, & hot veg/nonveg barbeques to feast on accompanied by the cheering sound of wine glasses for dinner.
